The TARDIS materialises on Earth in the future - to find the whole of England in the grip of a new Ice Age! Scientists are managing to hold back the progress of huge glaciers using an Ioniser machine - however, it's only a matter of time before they are overcome by the ice.

Nearby, a giant humanoid creature is found embedded in a glacier. Revived, the creature identifies itself as Varga, leader of a group of warriors who landed from Mars centuries before. With their home planet long dead, the Ice Warriors plan to conquer Earth. Only the Doctor, his companions Jamie and Victoria, and the personnel of the base can stop them!
