• “These two linked six parters have the makings of epics, and epitomise the Pertwee era. The innovative costume and mask designs of the Draconians are beautiful.Planet of the Daleks almost manages to pull off what is movie material. While the jungle studio set initially seems stagey, it is saved by location film work in episode five. Studio film inserts and model film material manage to give the story a comic strip book feel. Pertwee is at his best. Personally I could not live without this adventure.”

• “The stories will be well known to most Doctor Who fans so I won't précis them here. Let's look at the DVD releases themselves. Immediately a mistake jumps out when you see the inlay card for Frontier In Space - Terrence Dick and Barry Letts have each others photos by their names. And open the inlay card for Planet of the Daleks and you find a picture of Hilary Minster next to the biog of Prentis Hancock. Hmmm... slight errors, but not errors I've seen in any other release.The documentary feature on Frontier is of the quality I've come to expect and personally I always like seeing actors I am chiefly familiar with only from their Doctor Who appearances as they are now and learning more about them. The documentary for Planet is slightly less informative but still enjoyable.Commentary on both stories added to my enjoyment and together with the production notes is well up to standard. I thought the moderated commentary worked better than the unmoderated one of 'Planet', but I suspect this is my personal preference here rather than an actual right or wrong way. (As I have in the past found moderators unhelful!)Now to the feature in two parts spread over both DVDs entitled 'Perfect Scenario'. Not. I'm afraid this annoyed me very much. Inside these features was some interesting information struggling to get out, but my word what a struggle. It played to me like someone's pitch for a second-rate sci-fi show packaged round an existing viewer-catcher so I would have to watch it and, presumably, find I like it. I did not. If I ever see a DVD advertised with an extras feature that I remotely suspect of being anything like 'Perfect Scenario' again, I shall not buy it. (OK, I'm a Doctor Who fan so I will actually borrow a copy off a friend, but you get my point).Then on the extras DVD for Frontier In Space there is an overdue tribute to Roger Delgado. This is wonderful. So interesting, informative and of course, so sad. Wonderful to hear from Damaris Ha yman and the late Harry Towb, and fascinating and moving to hear the memories of Kismet Marlowe, Roger Delgado's widow. For a fan like me who remembers seeing most of the Pertwee stories first time round this tribute touched me and reminded me how I felt when I first heard the unbelievable news all those years ago. The tribute ends on a particularly poignant note as the last word goes to Barry Letts who has so recently gone from us himself.All in all this box set is definitely worth buying and a 5/5. But please remember BBC I am a Doctor Who buyer not a buyer of wanabe sci-fi makers shows. ”
