Tim has more than his fair share of wit and intelligence – but, unfortunately, he also has a harridan of a mother who shackles him to the family home. And while Timothy’s sister, Muriel, has managed to escape and his father spends his time hiding in the shed, Tim remains his mother’s pride, joy and mollycoddled son.

Tim’s every bid for freedom, his dreams and his girlfriends are vetted and rejected by the ever-watchful Mrs Lumsden – even his mealtimes are ruined by culinary atrocities such as her curry meringue pie.
