The Royal Mint is delighted to be able to mark the forthcoming Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by striking the Official UK £5 Crown to celebrate this remarkable occasion. A Diamond Jubilee, which marks a reign of 60 years is truly special. In Britain’s long history the only other monarch to reign for such a long period of time was The Queen’s great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria.
For this occasion, the Royal Mint will strike a special coin. Inspired partly by Queen Victoria’s commemorative medal designs, it spans The Queen’s reign with two royal portraits created by one of Britain’s foremost sculptors, Ian Rank-Broadley – one recalling the portrait prepared by Mary Gillick for the coins at the start of The Queen’s reign in 1953 and one inspired by the magnificent sculpture he created for the new Supreme Court building in London’s Parliament Square.
This £5 coin struck in cupro-nickel to Brilliant Uncirculated quality comes housed in a beautiful, specially designed informative presentation folder, to record the event for years to come.
