Over a long career, Bernard Manning was loved and loathed in equal measure. Some contemporary comedians really divide opinion and in his day, Bernard Manning did the same. But he always contended that he was not any of the things certain people accused him of. Born of Russian, Jewish and Irish descent he served in WW2 and at one point just after the war, was stationed at Spandau prison in Berlin, guarding Rudolph Hess.
Whilst not seen too often on television in later years he, appeared in two long running programmes: ‘The Comedians’ and ‘The Wheel Tappers and Shunters Social Club’.
This compilation of his adult material was recorded at his own club, The Embassy in Manchester, and at the Circus Tavern in London.
