Call the Midwife: Series 1
The lives, trials and tribulations of midwives working in 1950s London are captured in this moving and heart-warming hit drama series.
Based on the acclaimed memoirs of Jennifer Worth, newly-qualified midwife, Jenny Lee, arrives in the deprived East End to work in a convent. Teaming up with an eclectic team of midwives, Lee soon falls for the community she serves, experiencing the births, lives, loves and deaths of a closely-knit society on the cusp of huge social change.
Featuring talented newcomer Jessica Raine and industry legends including Jenny Agutter and Vanessa Redgrave, Call the Midwife is a life-affirming period drama that we can all fall in love with... and shed an occasional tear over.

“The best show on BBC I have seen in a long time. My Grandmother was a midwife in the 50s and it has given me a new appreciation of the struggles she and the people she cared for faced. It was an absolute delight to watch.”
