Cardiac Arrest is a satirical comedy drama that follows the journey of Dr. Andrew Collin, a newly qualified houseman who arrives on the wards equipped only with theoretical knowledge and a sense of humour. Collin's idealism is immediately at odds with senior house officer Claire Maitland, a pragmatic and cynical physician determined to make him learn the hard way.
This was the first series to truly evoke the chaos and black humour of life in a British hospital. It showed senior Doctors more interested in arranging golf matches than their patients and junior colleagues; skiving and gossiping nurses obsessed with bedding the dishiest doctors and disillusioned, exhausted junior doctors muddling through on vodka and practical jokes. Both lauded and rebuked by the medical profession, it was soon taken to heart by the viewing public.
Starring Helen Baxendale (Cold Feet, Friends), Andrew Lancel (The Bill, Queer As Folk).
