Wallander Series 1 & 2 - Thrilling adaptations of Mankell’s best-selling crime novels

“Kenneth Branagh’s performance is close to perfect”
Sunday Times

“As vibrantly colourful as anything we’ve seen on screen for months. The mood is noir… but the look is primary-colour picture book, gleaming with northern light”
Independent

Kenneth Branagh stars as Kurt Wallander, a flawed but deeply human detective, in these six terrifying tales set in the dramatic and beautiful landscape of southern Sweden.

Based on the award-winning Wallander novels by Henning Mankell. Kurt Wallander is a sensitive but brilliant detective – a man who takes each murder case he works on personally and will stop at nothing in his search for the truth, even at the expense of his health and his family life.

In Sidetracked, a young woman burns herself to death in front of Wallander. Later a former politician is found brutally murdered – killed with an axe and scalped. As the deaths continue, the victims killed in similar ways, Wallander must reveal the link between the cases.

In Firewall Wallander investigates two seemingly separate incidents – a heart attack victim and the brutal murder of a cab driver by two teenage girls. As Wallander delves deeper into why the girls committed the murder, the two cases lead to one conspiracy that stretches far beyond the borders of Sweden.

In One Step Behind, three teenagers are murdered on midsummer’s eve, each with a bullet to the head. When one of Wallander’s colleagues is found killed in exactly the same way, Wallander must discover the connection…

In Faceless Killers, an elderly man is brutally murdered and his wife left to die – a noose around her neck. Wallander arrives in time to hear her last word – ‘foreigners’. Suspicion soon falls on the local migrant community, creating a tense situation which starts to spiral out of control when a killer seeks revenge for the death of the elderly couple.

Wallander has decided to quit the police force for good in The Man Who Smiled. When an old friend comes to Wallander with concerns over the death of his father, Wallander says he can’t help. But when his friend is also found dead, shot three times, Wallander regrets his decision and returns to work on what may be a double murder case.

In The Fifth Woman Wallander investigates a series of savage murders. A poet is impaled on bamboo spikes, a local shop owner is starved and then strangled. The only connection – the men were violent and unlikeable and the killer made sure they suffered. Wallander must discover the connection between these crimes if he is to stop a serial killer from striking again.

Fiendishly inventive with clever plot twists and filmed in a unique and stunning location, this compelling series introduces an extremely likeable and entirely believable character.
