Shopping at BBC Shop is safe and guaranteed. All the information that you enter is private and secure. The BBC places great importance on maintaining the security of the information that you provide and for this reason we use advanced Internet security systems to safeguard your data. In addition, BBC Shop.com is protected by a Verisign SSL Certificate ensuring all data you send through, including your credit/debit card number, name and address, is encrypted and converted into code before it is securely transmitted over the internet.
The BBC Shop also checks the authenticity of the credit card details when they are entered.
In the event of unauthorised use of your credit card or debit card most banks and credit card companies either cover the charges that result or may limit your liability to £50.
Do not send credit/debit card details via standard email, as this is not secure, please use the online shop or telephone us to place your order. In the unlikely event of unauthorised card use please be sure to contact your card issuer immediately as per your contractual arrangement with them.
BBC Shop uses an advanced Internet security system to safeguard your data. Therefore the card details and type must be entered exactly as they are on your card in order to be accepted.

If you get the error message: 'Invalid credit card number or amount. Credit Card not authorised':
Please ensure that the expiry date of your payment card is after the anticipated despatch date of your order. Payment is taken at the point of despatch for goods and in the event that the payment card has expired we will be unable to take payment and fulfil your order.
When entering your card details please ensure that you check the following:
If you save your payment details it will make your Checkout process easier in future. Once your payment details are entered, your details will be stored securely in your account and you will not have to re-enter them again when you place your next order. If you do not wish to save your details please tick the box.
The card security code is a unique three or four-digit number printed on your debit/credit card. This number is not embossed on the card and hence not printed on receipts - making it difficult for anyone other than the genuine cardholder, to know it.
Some card issuers refer to this number as the "Card Security Code" others as the "personal security code" and others as "Card Verification Value".
Some cards, many UK-issued cards for example, have a three-digit number printed at the top of the signature strip on the reverse of the card.
Others, American Express cards for example, have a four-digit number printed on the front of the card, above the account number. See below:

BBC Shop also accepts Paypal. For more information on Paypal and how it works click here

The majority of DVDs on BBC Shop have subtitles for deaf and hard of hearing people. However, some early DVD releases have closed captions. These are specially coded subtitles called 'closed-caption subtitles'. Closed captions can only be viewed with a decoder. People who do not have a closed caption decoder can watch the same DVD but will not see the subtitles. For more information please refer to the product pages.

If you would like items to be gift wrapped, click on the 'Gift Wrapping' link in the 'Additional Services' section of the Order Summary page. You will be taken to a page where you can select the items you wish to gift wrap (gift wrap costs £1.95 per item). You can also type a personal message against each gift wrapped item. This will appear on a gift tag that will be attached to the appropriate item in the order.
Don’t worry we won’t spoil the surprise! The despatch note is wrapped inside with the product (without the price appearing). A confirmation of your order will be sent to you in the post.
Every year we throw away around 2 million tonnes of electrical items, making it one of the fastest growing waste streams in the UK. The Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) Regulations aims to reduce the amount being sent to landfill, and help reduce your impact on the environment by providing facilities to deposit old electrical and electronic items at sites across the UK, free of charge.
Items and toys classified as WEEE have the crossed out wheelie bin symbol, which means they should not be thrown away with domestic rubbish. Batteries also come under this category.

To find your nearest recycling site contact your local council, or visit www.recycle-more.co.uk and type in your postcode.
Thank you for helping the environment.

Squiggly squares are two dimensional barcodes or QR —“quick response” — codes. These are next-generation bar-codes that are a fast-track to the mobile internet, and can link you directly to a web page, a video or a photo.
To get the software. First install the i-nigma program which allows your phone to scan the squares. This is a simple process and can be done either by texting "bbcshop" to 80010 and click on the returned sms link to the i-nigma website. The i-nigma website will automatically detect your phone's make and model and download the free reader to your phone; simply follow the on-screen instructions.
After you have downloaded the i-nigma barcode reader to your mobile phone, all you have to do is to open the application, take a picture of the squiggly square code with your phone to download a classic BBC clip and you will be directed to the clip online.
Simply centre a squiggly square in your mobile phone's viewfinder, snap, and the i-nigma code reader will do the rest.
*While there is no charge for the i-nigma reader, your tariff with your network operator will apply for the SMS you send, as well as the web connection to get the reader.
*Depending on your phone model/make, the i-nigma reader might be placed in a different location such as games, downloads, installations, etc.
For a complete list of supported handsets please visit the i-nigma website
Then you can try the following methods:
1: On the mobile web Go to www.i-nigma.mobi on your mobile. i-nigma will automatically identify your handset type, download and install i-nigma.
2: By SMS:
Text the word i-nigma to: +44 7781 489340 (or 07781 489340 in the UK). You will receive back an SMS containing a link to the i-nigma software download site.
Is your phone WAP enabled? Can you get internet access on your phone? If not, then you will not be able to use the I-nigma software and download our clips.
