Something Special is a series of TV programmes shown on CBeebies, particularly for children with communication difficulties, although enjoyed by all children.

Popular presenter, Justin Fletcher, uses Makaton in the programmes; a system of signs and symbols, which are used with speech to help children and families to communicate.

Makaton is becoming more mainstream, with groups such as The Singing Hands running courses around the country for all children. Parents can see the benefit that signing brings, as their children develop spoken language and communication skills.
