I bought this after reading the preview in the times that said it was a worthy tribute and update of the classic Journey Into Space. I was hoping for an elegantly written new episode that would pay homage to Charles Chilton's creation.Boy was I disappointed...This is a masterclass in how not to do it. The plot was rambling and incoherant. None of it made much sense, there was no shine, no hook, no grace, nothing that pulled the listener in. The writer used feeble and amateur suspense segments to try to create excitement and failed to do so at all. The plot was so full of holes it was laughable. And frankly it didn't even feel like a journey into space show at all. I didn't recognise any of the characters in more than name. They didn't sound, act, talk or feel like the characters they were supposed to be. It was just awful. As a stand alone show it would have fallen as flat as all the other recent BBC attempts at radio sci-fi and has just as little charm and grace, but the fact that it was based on journey into space was frankly insulting.I'd give it zero out of 5 if I could. An insult to radio, an insult to Charles Chilton and most of all yet another insult to the license paying public.
