My love of geography, orientation and any thing to do with Michael Palin made me pick up this book 21 years after his journey.

I remember the TV series well and found it absorbing and light hearted. The book goes into more depth and even after 21 years I felt that I was reading about long lost civilisations and ways of life. Could not put the book down and feel that I've picked up a shedful of useful facts to quote to family and friends ( I was in Heraklion at the same time, as a youthful 25 year old, being gorged by mosquitoes in the airport at the end of a holiday in dodgy Malia) Michael Palin has been blessed with the three Cs - charisma, charm and character - which many men don't possess in full, along with the rare twinkle of the eye. Well recommended, especially for women over 40.
